The Sony CDP-XE220 is an excellent example of what CD players should be like - a simple easy to use interface and excellent sound quality.
Whilst conforming to the trend of having an ever-decreasing number of buttons, the Sony manages to do this without sacrificing ease of use, as with other players. The Jog Dial is especially good, making skipping tracks and programming playlists a doddle. The track calendar is excellent - it quickly shows you how many tracks are on the CD, how many you have listened to already and how many there are to come. It makes playlist programming quick and easy.
The sound quality is excellent. The sound provides punchy bass and crisp treble, coping well with any type of music.
